The Mii-dera temple, the head temple of the Tendaijimon sect, possesses a vast site halfway up Mt. Nagara southwest of the Biwa lake in Otsu city, Shiga prefecture. And it also is known for the vesper bell of Mii, one of the eight scenic places in Omi, the lake town. In the main hall (Kondo) of the temple, Bodhisattva Miroku (Skt Maitreya) is enshrined as the object of worship, but it cannot be seen because it is an absolute secret Buddha. In addition, the Buddha statues and the treasures which are noted in connection with Chisho Daishi (the Great Teacher Chisho) are laid as valuable secret Buddha. Especially, the bell dragged by Benkei (Benkei-hikizuri-gane), an important cultural property and the vesper bell of Mii, one of the three famous bells in Japan, are well-known.
